Exciting news from the Sandy Arts Guild Elementary Art Show held on May 15, 2023, in Sandy City Hall. Out of the 1,000 pieces displayed at the event, our APA students secured an impressive count of five Mayor's Choice Awards!
Our own Draper 2 students, Adeline Armstrong (2nd grade), Christian Nelson (3rd grade), Shanaya Singhal (4th grade), Shaiana Lohani (2nd grade), and Odyssey Williams (6th grade) showcased their ability to weave academics, nature, and their own life experience into artistic expression.
Christian Nelson used his class's study of an Inuit tribe from Canada as inspiration. His rendition of an Inuit bird represented the fusion of academic learning and art. Similarly, Adeline Armstrong created a beautiful drawing inspired by a family trip to her grandfather's mountain property.
Both students, along with Shanaya, Shaiana, and Odyssey, were among the 14 students selected for the Mayor's Choice Awards. This prestigious award, presented by Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski, highlighted the best pieces among the many submitted.
Adeline Armstrong took a moment to thank her art teacher, Janessa Lewis, for her encouragement, echoing a sentiment we're sure is shared by all our award winners.
Our deepest appreciation goes to our dedicated Draper 2 art teachers, Janessa Lewis and Monica Ingoldsby, for their commitment to nurturing our students' creativity and talent.
We celebrate all of our students who participated in the art show, and extend special congratulations to the five award winners. Your dedication, creativity, and hard work inspire us all.
