NEW: Character Development Updates
A Big Yee Haw! for our great 5th and 6th graders who participated so well in our Western Roundup activity on Friday! They learned the importance of keeping their power, making friends and setting goals! Thank you to our teachers, staff and volunteers that made this event a success!

NEXT WEEK is our White Ribbon Week. This is an annual event that empowers our students to take control of their media choices, and helps them make smart and safe choices when using technology and other media. On your child's learning plan, you will find a tracker to keep on
ALL WEEK LONG. Please discuss briefly what your child learned that day about media

safety. Completed trackers will be turned in on Monday, FEBRUARY 8th and those students may wear CRAZY SOCKS on Tuesday, FEBRUARY 9th. We will also include a parent email next week that will have our lunch time videos that you can also watch at home if you'd like!

NEW: APA Accreditation
Every 5 years, we are required to undergo an Accreditation Review. Cognia is the approved

Accrediting agency for public schools across multiple states. The Review Team from Cognia that conducted American Prep’s recent review represented decades of education experience in public schools districts and charters across multiple states. As part of their extensive review, Cognia conducted observations in multiple APA classrooms, examined over 400 documents, and interviewed 117 stakeholders, including board members, admin, teachers, parents, community members, students, and support staff.

We are excited to announce that American Prep received an exceptional recommendation of Accreditation from its recent review. The Index of Education Quality (IEQ) is the numeric score given an institution at the conclusion of the Accreditation Review process. The 5-year average COGNIA IEQ score for institutions is 280. American Prep received an IEQ rating of 350 out of

400—far above average and indicating that APA “Demonstrates noteworthy practices producing clear results that positively impact the institution.”

Cognia specifically noted these powerful practices at APA:
1. The American Preparatory Academy (APA), directed by the chief executive officer (CEO) and the leadership team, tirelessly commit to the institution’s purpose and direction.
2. APA’s governing board established a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, including a strong code of ethics, allowing them to fulfill their roles and responsibilities for the institution and schools’ direction.
3. APA schools provide a structured and positive culture that exemplifies the system’s mission statement “...to ensure that each student achieves maximum academic proficiency and develops virtuous character and motivation for a productive citizenry.”
4. APA exemplifies a data-driven system where teachers record, collect, analyze, and use both formative and summative assessments to update the curriculum and assess student learning.
5. APA provides staff members with professional learning activities based on data-driven needs assessments with a focus on collaboration and collegiality.
6. The system provides access to information resources and materials to support the curriculum and allocates human, material, and fiscal resources in alignment with the organizational purpose and improvement of student performance.

We are grateful to the staff, parents, students, and community members who contribute in meaningful ways to the culture and mission of excellence at American Prep!

2021 Spelling BEE

It's almost time for our 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee competition! Participation in the spelling bee is completely optional for off campus students, it is not mandatory. All students in class will participate in the grade level classroom bees on the week of Feb. 8-12, and the top 2 spellers from each classroom will advance to the 1st-3rd grade School Bee on Thursday, February 25th at 1pm or the 4th-6th grade School Bee on Friday, February 26th at 1:15pm.

If you have an off-campus student who would like to compete in the spelling bee, they must be able/willing to come into school in full uniform and participate in the classroom bee. If they are one of the top 2 spellers in the classroom bee, then they will also need to be able/willing to participate in the school wide bees in full school uniform on the 25th or 26th of February. Here is the classroom bee schedule. Please be sure to come to your students assigned On Campus Teacher date/time. If you do not know who that is, contact your Off-Campus teacher to help you.

Classroom bees will be limited to teachers and students only, no parents will be permitted in the rooms. School bee's audience will consist of parents of the school bee contestants only, no school assembly this year.
