2022-2023 - Dropoff-Pickup How to ensure the best experience this year.

Be prepared for delays. There are always longer wait times in the first several days of a new school year, but it quickly improves as the system is learned and followed.

What can you do to make drop-offpickup safer and more efficient for yourself and others -KNOW YOUR ROUTE & THE RULES -FOLLOW THE RULES AND STAFF DIRECTION

Our Draper 2/3 campus has one access point and limited space on site for vehicles, ALL of which is needed for the metered drop-off/pickup that is happening at the time. The system is efficient and maximizes the space available but does require you to do your part to keep it running efficiently. Therefore, following the DOs and DO NOTs below is essential. Please study them and make them part of your daily carpool routine.

Would you be interested in avoiding drop-off/pick up altogether? Or reducing how often you drive? You Can!!! Here's how?

  • CARPOOL with other families. Fewer cars mean less wait time, especially in the first few days. Make it an exciting friends & family occasion.
  • Take advantage of BUSSING.  Use APA's subscription bus service. Why do you carpool at all if you don't have to? Click here to learn more about the APA Draper Bus program

Dos and Do Nots

DO's & DO NOTs

Follow these tips to make a HUGE difference in the carpool experience for you and others.

  • DO- HAVE YOUR NEW 2022-23 COLORED TAG ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR before entering and exiting campus.  Every vehicle must have a NEW 22-23 Carpool Tag to be allowed on-site during drop-off/pickup.
  • DO- PLAN YOUR ARRIVAL FROM 114th & DEPARTURE TOWARD 123rd. RIGHT in and RIGHT out ONLY during carpool.
    Plan your route now.
  • DO NOT - TURN LEFT INTO OR OUT OF THE SITE DURING CARPOOL.
This is a condition of the City's approval for our schools.
  • Do - RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO PARK AND WALK YOUR STUDENT(S) INSIDE.
Parking is limited, and drop-off/pickup is severely delayed by pedestrian traffic. Students are ready and very excited to come to see friends and teachers. Prepare yourself mentally now and exchange your byes and hugs at home when you get IN the car so you can drop them at the curb and drive away.
  • DO- PULL ALLLLLLLL the way forward as far as you can at the curb before dropping OFF or picking up.
  • DO- Drop off/pick up ONLY at the curb.  (Never double-parked or from a parking stall)
  • DO NOT- GET OUT OF THE CAR AT THE CURB.

Have your students and their gear organized and ready to quickly exit at the curb without you needing to exit the car. Staff will be on the curbs to help with this if needed.
  • PM PickupDo Not Arrive Early
Because of our space limitations, if you arrive before your student's scheduled release time, you will not be allowed on site! That space is needed for drivers whose students ARE ready to be picked up.  PRO TIP- arrive a few minutes AFTER your scheduled release time.  Why cut it close and risk being turned away to circle back around to the end of the line because you arrived a minute too early? Unfortunately, it's that important. Please save yourself the trouble and come a few minutes later than your student's release time.
  • DO- CALL THE OFFICE FOR AN ELECTRONIC EARLY RELEASE PASS IF YOUR STUDENT IS CHECKING OUT EARLY.
  • DO- USE THE CHURCH NORTH OF THE SCHOOL OR WALMART TO PARK if you're in the area early and can't come to the school yet.

Leave the church or Walmart parking AT your student's release time, and you'll never have to be turned away for arriving early.
  • DO NOT- PARK ANYWHERE on Lone Peak, in the residential neighborhood, or at commercial businesses near the school to wait for your arrival time. If arriving early, use the church or Walmart parking lots to wait.
  • DO NOT - USE THE NEIGHBORHOOD OR COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES TO TURN AROUND.
Just plan your arrival route from 114th and departure to 123rd.
  • DO - MERGE INTO THE RIGHT LANE APPROACHING THE SCHOOL SAFELY & WELL BEFORE THE ENTRY.  Be courteous of others.
  • DO- Encourage your student(s) to quickly come to the curb and LOOK FOR YOU, not doddle or "socialize" in the halls or away from your assigned section of curb. If you are on the curb for longer than 2 minutes, you may be asked to circle around the campus to free that spot for students who ARE ready to be picked up.
  • DO - Drive slowly and very cautiously, being aware and courteous of others.
  • DO - USE MOBILE DEVICES ONLY WHEN PARKED.  (Staff will ask you to put the phone down while moving. Your student is out there too.)

If you must park & come inside, always use designated crosswalks.
  • DO - LOOK FOR STAFF AND FOLLOW STAFF DIRECTIONS.

They are trying to help carpool run better for everyone.
  • DO - Be patient and plan ahead.  Thank You Carpool
Drop-off/pickup always takes longer the first few days of school until everyone learns how. It rarely takes longer than 20 minutes, curb to curb after that.

THANK YOU so much to all our wonderful carpool families who are patient, courteous, and follow carpool rules.

This builder behavior helps keep carpooling safe and efficient for everyone and demonstrates APA builder behavior.
