April 2022 - Brad Sheneman & Holland Richardson
We are excited to announce the opening of our afterschool program in Draper, with the launch of the Draper 3 Scholars Club. The D3 Scholars Club is a designated area where students come to work on homework and get help in a quiet environment. Our D3 team provides the extra motivation that is sometimes needed to encourage students to come and discuss missing assignments, make plans, and set goals to succeed in every class. Students are guided in setting long-term (year-long) goals as well as short-term goals that will allow them to be successful in their academics.
Funding: The funding for this program comes from the competitive Afterschool and Summer Programs grant, which was offered through the American Rescue Plan Act. APA has been awarded $1.2 million over the next three years which will be used to support several different programs, including our current academic support programs in West Valley, and which will allow us to maintain the Scholars Club in Draper.
Who should participate in the Scholars Club? We highly encourage ALL students to participate in the Scholars Club! It is a great opportunity to work on assignments without distractions. It’s also a great place for any student who struggles to meet the academic rigor of APA by discussing the material that is challenging them, and receiving targeted help.
Scholars Club Expectations: Students at Scholars Club continue to follow school standards outlined in the APA student handbook. This ensures that we have a positive environment that supports diligent work. This means cell phones can only be used to listen to music with headphones or earbuds. This also means that students who stay on campus after school at Scholars Club actively work on school assignments and projects.
To make this work well, students need to come prepared with homework or projects to work on when they arrive at the Scholars Club. APA students will check in with an advisor, and talk about what they are working on and what they hope to complete while they are at the Club. Before students leave, they meet with an advisor to discuss what they accomplished and next steps for success.
We are excited about this opportunity for all of our D3 students. For more information about the Draper 3
