In memory of Laura Dye, School Counselor at West Valley 1, who left this life on May 2nd, 2020.
Our wonderful Laura Dye came to APA in September 2016 and worked tirelessly for our APA families until a demanding illness required her to give a reluctant resignation in January 2020. Laura was the epitome of “see a need, fill a need,” always seeking to help and always working hard to assist students to achieve the excellence she truly believed they could. Whether in her office, classroom, or out at carpool, she was a great listener and provided sound counsel for students and parents. She was the mentor for the HOPE Squad and did a fantastic job guiding those students in learning how to identify needs in others and how to reach out to them.
Laura’s energy was quiet and calm, but powerful. The more you interacted with her, the more you appreciated the depth of her character and her steady commitment. She preferred to support behind the scenes--always ready, willing, and able. Every minute she was here at the school, she made herself available. There is no question that she truly cared for each student individually. She didn’t ask for recognition, just quietly served the entire K-9 student body with love and compassion.
When she was chosen as the WV1 Builder of the Year in 2019, it was remarked by a co-worker that “This campus would be a much less vibrant place without her!” So true! It seems that this was her trademark in life, not just at school. Laura has left a quiet, indelible mark on APA and the families of West Valley that she served. Her family has created a hashtag that describes it all. #LoveLikeLaura
Laura, you will be missed. Thank you for being a treasured thread in our APA tapestry!
