Reading University - Irene Christenson - Curriculum Director

We are excited to announce an update to our Reading University, which has been a foundational program in our elementary curriculum for years. Many parents value the emphasis that American Prep places on reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Our APA parents have expressed appreciation that our system provides a plan for students to read over 180 books throughout their elementary years and are often amazed at how well their students develop reading skills so quickly.

Our dedicated curriculum staff has worked tirelessly to enhance our online tools to create a more user-friendly experience. There are still a number of updates planned for the new Reading University platform, powered by Alexandria. You may see some functions in the platform that are still in development; however, we want all of our parents to start using the new Reading University platform immediately to help guide their students in their at-home reading plans. The link to the new Reading University will go live on Friday, September 17th for our American Prep families on our campus web pages.

Reading University has been loaded with all approved books at each campus and there is no required login or password. The difference is that the platform is now powered by Alexandria, an online library system with years of experience supporting educational institutions.

The primary functions of Reading University remain the same but are improved for a better user experience and can now be viewed easily on a mobile device.

Here are some navigation instructions and highlights to help you respond to parent questions about our new system.

Quick Reminders

  • Parents should be encouraged to use these primary functions to find books for their students - CampusSelection, Grade Level, and Smart Search or magnifying glass. There are several additional filter options that may be especially helpful such as Printed Lists. The new Reading University platform enables users to create printable lists based on several filters.
Please take a moment to review our Reading University platform. If you have any questions, please email Irene Christenson, ichristenson@apamail.org.
